Mules as Muse

I don’t usually have the same style shoe at a given time although sneakers do test my self-control. Even with beloved sneakers, I have to wrangle myself into some variety - or at least stop myself from buying the same pair again before the old ones wear out but somehow my mule count is at 5 pairs. The writing’s clearly on the wall, but I promise: no duplicates here. Just strategic, highly controlled additions (truly). I don't need to spell it out - mules are simply gorgeous, and when it comes to versatility and wearability, few shoe styles would rival the mule.

This is a much loved backless shoe design that excels in the comfort ranks and will be on high rotation for me throughout the year. I can also state with certainty that it will remain a style staple in my wardrobe. It’s no wonder that it is the traditional footwear of choice in societies in parts of The Middle East and North Africa. However, I should mention that it’s sometimes considered a controversial style choice- one that some dismiss, while others are drawn to its unique appeal. Perhaps it’s worth noting too, that the name is derived from Ancient Rome where it was mulleus calceus (a red or purple shoe worn by the 3 highest magistrates) - a distinctive style of dress for figures of authority and status. Interesting isn’t it?
That something so simple carries such historical esteem.
Allow me to introduce my humble collection spanning from a few months to a few years of stylish service.
A velvety architectural pair from about 6 years ago - the oldest pair by far but impossible to ignore and my favourite
A slipper style in trusted black with metal studs - this gives edge, edgy,_edgiest
A fervent green buckle detail chunky platform mule - this says raw-charm, bold
An elegant open toe leather with a midi-curve block heel - these mules strut and owns places
A sterling silver metallic pointed-toe pair with a kitten block heel - these are sophisticated and confident, a trendsetter
If you haven't yet introduced your wardrobe or yourself to a pair of mules, I trust you're either dying to or are at least dashingly curious by now.
